Corral Canyon Road runs north from Pacific Coast Highway, passing El Nido and arriving at the tract of approximately forty homes called Malibu Bowl approximately 3 miles from Pacific Coast Highway. It is a long, steep ascent from Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu Bowl as Corral Canyon Road twists and turns to make the climb. Part of Corral Canyon Road collapsed during the 1998 El Nino storms and access was limited to one lane for many years afterward. The road failure was a significant safety hazard for residents of Malibu Bowl and El Nido in Corral Canyon.
The Malibu Bowl neighborhood is quiet, family neighborhood, long settled. Malibu Bowl is a small lot subdivision created under density standards which would not be accepted today.
The terrain surrounding Malibu Bowl consists of steep slopes creating a natural bowl area facing south to southwest. The roads in the Malibu Bowl tract are narrow, with many parked cars, a situation that creates a hazard for fire protection under emergency conditions.
