Marc Nathanson is one of American 19s leading communications executives. A 40-year veteran of the cable television industry, Nathanson founded and served as chairman and CEO of Falcon Cable TV, which operated in 27 States and had joint ventures in Brazil, France, United Kingdom, Philippines, Mexico and India. In 1999, he sold Falcon to Paul Allen 19s Charter Communications and currently serves as vice chairman of the nation 19s third largest cable TV company. Mr. Nathanson is chairman of Mapleton Investments, a diversified investment holding company and Mapleton Communications, which owns and operates forty radio stations in the western United States.
President Clinton appointed Marc Nathanson (1995-2002) as Chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which is an independent federal agency supervising all U.S. government supported, non-military international broadcasting, whose mission is to promote freedom and democracy and enhance understanding through multi-media communications of accurate, objective and balanced news, information, and other programming about America and the world to audiences overseas. BBG broadcasting organizations include Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the Middle East Broadcasting Networks, radio Free Asia, and the Office of Cuba Broadcasting. BBG broadcasts reach over 175 million people worldwide on a weekly basis. He was also a member of the Albanian Enterprise Fund and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Mr. Nathanson is currently Vice Chair of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. In addition, Mr. Nathanson is Chair of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) for Los Angeles and a member of the Board of trustees of the Aspen Institute, Skirball Cultural center, Los Angeles Philharmonic, American Democracy Institute, USC Annenberg School of Communications and is a member of the Business Executives for National Security (BENS). He is a graduate of the University of Denver and has a master 19s degree from the University of California, where he was a national science foundation fellow. He is married to psychologist, Jane Nathanson and they reside in Malibu CA.
